Neon Glass Processing System

The MG-5000 is an adaptable system and equipment that can accommodate various lengths an diameters of neon glass units. The bombardier in this system delivers a low mA range at high voltages, in my case 23.5KV. It's purpose is to maintain and generate (strike) an ark thru the subject unit attached to the pumping system and has two factors that limit the length/diameter of the the subject unit is capable of processing. One, the output of the bombardier and the other is the vacuum systems ability to reach the desired vacuum levels in time set by the manufacture of the electrodes being used.

Neon Vacuum Pumping System

Removes all the undesired gases and vapors from the subject tube during the neon glass processing procedure. The desired vacuum levels the vacuum system range from 5 to .1 mTorr (high vacuum) or less depending on what step and temperature the neon unit is during the processing stage. A good vacuum system has a rough in pump, final pump, and a molecular pump whether it be a diffusion pump, turbo pump, and various others. The molecular pump will not work with out backing from the final pump.

Typically a borosilicate manifold connecting a vacuum gauge sensor, manometer, an stopcocks for filling with various types of noble gasses or used for isolation/metering the vacuum level of the manifold desired. The length and the diameter of the subject unit attached to the manifold are what defines the final fill pressure. A large diameter pumping manifold that is not long is desired due to molecular drag and kept as clean as possible with no fingerprints to mitigate subject unit contamination.

Neon Glass Processing

In following our mission and goal of the Route 66 Neon Shop to revive new and revitalize existing authentic neon glass signs in Albuquerque, NM and neighboring areas. We strive to produce the best longevity and quality in the manufacturing process of our product and still continue to improve our process. For the most part neon glass processing plants/systems and equipment. are designed by the owner/operator usually the neon artist. This, with help from the neon community and years of study, is my design. This is a more industrial set up than most others and portable on wheels, another trait that isn't normal in most neon glass processing plants. It is fully operational and like many other neon benders it becomes a work in progress as to better improve furthering the streamline process.
